The Healing Benefits of Aloe Vera Juice
73The plant extracts of aloe vera as a medicinal herb has been around for hundreds of years. In fact the very first mention of aloe vera was found on some Sumerian tablets that dated back back to 2100 BC. The use of aloe vera was not limited to the Middle East. Archeologists who have looked at sites in India, China, Greece have documented the use of aloe vera in ancients societies in these countries. It is said that Alexander the Great conquered the island of Socotra in the Indian Ocean just so he would get a steady supply of aloe vera to help cure his wounded soldiers. The aloe vera plant is native to northern Africa but it is a very easy plant to grow as long as you keep the plant where there are lots of sunlight and water the plant when it's dry.
Given aloe vera's long history, there are many today who use aloe vera as a cure for all sorts of ailments. Some people advocate drinking aloe vera juice for health and even put it into their food. I use aloe vera juice for topical remedies. The following are my uses for aloe vera juice (and you can buy aloe vera juiceat any health food store, even Trader Vic's!). If any of these topical uses causes any allergic reaction, stop immediately.
- Use a cotton puff and dab aloe vera juice on your pimples twice a day for at least six months.
- To heal psoriasis and eczema and minor skin inflamation, rub some aloe vera juice on your arms and legs on a daily basis and let air dry.
- Use a cotton puff and dab aloe vera juice to heal and eliminate canker sores.
- To treat your feet, create an aloe vera foot wash using two parts of aloe vera juice and one part water and soak your feet.
- Create an aloe vera toner using one part aloe vera juice and two parts water. Pour into a bottle with a small spritzer. Spritz the wash after you cleanse your face and let dry. Follow up with moisturizer.
- For minor burns, sunburn, and cuts, pour aloe vera juice into a bottle with a spritzer and spritz directly on the affected area.
- Freshen up your hair by combining equal parts aloe vera juice and baby shampoo as a daily rinse and you've got a shampoo and conditioner all-in-one.
What is it about aloe vera that makes it so medicinal? The aloe vera plant emits a gel that has a natural mix of polysaccharides, prostaglandins and fatty acids, enzymes, antraquinones, amino acids, vitamins, and minerals. All these combined seem to promote a healing action as well as acts as a pain inhibitor and gives the gel of the plant many practical, medicinal uses.
The video below shows how one person uses the gel directly from the aloe vera plant to moisturize, but I just didn't like the to put anything that sticky on my face, which is why I buy a bottle of aloe vera juice instead. But you can see it certainly works for her.
