Ten Romantic Songs for Valentine's Day
67Okay, this is a collection of romantic songs, not THE collection. I still think one of the best Valentine's Day gifts you can give someone is a compilation of romantic songs. It says a lot about you and how you look at your valentine and the relationship. Since this is my compilation, you'll notice there isn't really anything hard edged. The newest song is by Bruno Mars. Most of it is really sappy, but that is romantic to me. The songs run the gamut and there's no particular order but I listen to these songs a lot, but it should get you thinking about songs that you might want to play for your valentine when you're home after dinner and enjoying your time together.
You and I
I don't know if anyone remembers this old song by Eddie Rabbitt and Crystal Gayle, but it's a gorgeous duet and I can just see a couple slow dancing in the kitchen to this song.
Just the Way You Are
When Bruno Mars came on to the music scene last year with this song, I thought, romance is not dead! Not only is it a catchy tune, but it's so sweet and so in love with the girl, and any girl who hears the lyrics would feel more than all right.
Endless Love
I know the soundtrack comes from a movie about a crazy kid who burned down his girlfriend's house because they are being kept apart, but that's why it's such a great song. It's a love that couldn't be kept apart and although Lionel Ritchie and Diana Ross are not in their teens, I thought their duet captured that yearning.
When I Fall In Love
Nat King Cole's voice is one of the best and whenever I hear this song with him singing it, I just melt into a puddle. It's an all or nothing approach to love and it's so good!
I Got You Babe
Again, another duet. One of the reasons that I love this song is that Sonny and Cher always seems to me a representation of the hippie free-love multiple sex partners 70s, and yet this iconic couple sang this song is about fidelity and loyalty and love against all odds wrapped in groovy talk.
Can't Help Falling in Love
With me, Elvis will always be The King. This song when he sang it at the peak of his career, would make women throw their keys, underwear, themselves at him. And I can hear why, his voice is just so achy with love. After hearing the end of the song, I always sigh and wish he hadn't passed away the tragic way he did.
From This Moment On
This romantic song from Shania Twain can only be sung by a woman, because to me it represents how a woman is fully committed to a relationship once she's decided that he is the one for her.
People Will Say We're In Love
Whenever I hear this duet from the original Oklahoma sound track sung by Shirley Jones and Gordon Macrae, I can't help but smirk in delight. It is so unbelievably cute when a couple really like each other but haven't really wanted to admit it. I grew up in a house where my parents loved show tunes and this was one of the first songs I've liked and as I've grown older I've liked it even more because it shows how a couple in love can be so foolish and silly and sweet.
The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face
The first time I hear this Roberta Flack song, it made me cry. It's so moving and for me it really captures how someone is so smitten with someone they love.
Lady
I've always liked this song from Styx. For me, it's really the only romantic song that works for a rock band with an emphasis on electric guitars. When I hear this on the car radio I turn it up full blast and join in on the singing.
